Grilling is a great way to enhance the flavors of fruit. As a dessert, as a side dish, as a starter or in a salad, grilled fruit always tastes good. It is easy to do both outside on the BBQ and inside in the grill pan. In this article, we give you some tips for an ideal grilling result.
Grilling fruit brings out the most surprising flavors. Before you start, it is best to take the firmness into account. Choose pieces of fruit that are just about ripe enough, so that they remain nice and firm. Nobody likes mushy fruit on their plate, do they?
PINEAPPLE
The most well-known fruit for grilling is pineapple. With its special structure and abundance of natural sugars, this delicious summer fruit is perfectly suited for grilling. Serve the grilled pineapple with a spoonful of mascarpone or a scoop of vanilla ice cream as the perfect end to your summer evening!
PEACHES OR NECTARINES
These delicious summer fruits are a real delicacy on the grill. Cut the peach or nectarine in half, sprinkle with some sugar for a caramelized result and put them with the flesh first on the grill. The exquisite aromas that are released will make your mouth water! Besides being the ideal summer dessert, they are great in salads too.
BANANA
We take a slightly different approach to the banana, as it is a very tender fruit and we do not want it to fall apart on the grill. For the best grilling results, do not peel the banana yet. Cut it in half lengthwise and place it on the grill with the peel facing upwards. This way, your banana stays in one piece and is easier to handle on the grill. Add some melted chocolate, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and enjoy the most tasteful banana split!
WATERMELON
The most versatile fruit for grilling is without doubt the watermelon! This summertime favorite takes on a tuna-like meaty texture when grilled, which makes it perfect for combining into starters and salads. Our favorite combo: grilled watermelon with feta cheese, Parma ham and rucola.
